Driver Setup (First-Time Only)

  1. Install USBCAN2 Drivers:

    USBCAN_AllInOne_x86_x64_2.0.0.1.zip

Software Setup

  1. Connect the USBCAN-II converter to you laptop, and connect the BCAN connector of the BMS cable to the CAN1 port of the USBCAN-II box.

Check Device Manager to make sure there are no errors loading the driver for the USBCAN-II converter. If there are errors (e.g. “Windows cannot load the driver for this hardware”) then disable Memory Integrity under Windows Security > Device Security > Core Isolation, as this may be blocking the driver.

  1. Run the BMS Updater software:

    BMS Updater.zip

  2. Locate the correct firmware files for your product. Contact your CranePower representative for these if you do not have them.

USB Connection Setup

E-Gen150/E-Gen300

  1. Ensure unit is powered off, and rear filter panel removed (no need to remove MSD).

  2. Reach through the rear filter panel, unscrew the JT1 cap, then connect the BMS updater cable to the JT1 debug port on the HVCB (High Voltage Control Box).

  3. Plug in updater cable plug, aligning keys with socket.

  4. When plug is aligned correctly, twist the locking ring until it is seated, then twist hard until it pulls it into place.

Power Up

  1. Power the system with 24V, by turning on the system control power.
  2. Plug in either a single phase or three phase charger to provide continuous power (see note below).

<aside> ⚠️

During the BMS update the battery will be offline, and the 24V bus will be powered from the UPS on a 1min timer by default. To ensure there is no power interruption to the HVCB while updating, plug in an input to the E-Gen to ensure continuous power to UPS input. (The BMS does not need external HV DC to be present, only 24V.)

Verifying Update

  1. After all updates, power cycle the BMS by turning the control power off, wait 10s, then on again.
  2. Verify there are no BMS faults.
  3. Check the BMS Admin page on the screen or remotely on RMS to verify that the software version for strings matches the new firmware version that was programmed.
